Al Pacino will appear in Central Park this Summer

Dec, 09th 2009 17:34:24

Each summer, the Public Theater in Central Park puts on at least one play by William Shakespeare as part of its Shakespeare in the Park series. Famous Hollywood stars are frequently recruited to perform live for the run of a play.

Theater fans interested in booking with the Hotel Mela in New York City might want to ensure their stay coincides with this year's play, The Merchant of Venice, if they would like to see Al Pacino. The movie actor will be taking on the role of Shylock in this play, media sources reveal.

BBC News further highlights the fact that this is a special performance for Pacino, for it marks his first stage appearance anywhere in New York City for around seven years.

The Merchant of Venice will be performed on alternating nights with The Winter's Tale. However, Pacino will only be acting in the first play as he could not attend rehearsals for the second.

Both plays run from June 9 to August 1 2010. Each production is free and open to the public
